About
Why this shortlist exists.
Before my daughter was born, I did what every first-time parent does: I fell down the rabbit hole. Weeks of YouTube reviews, Reddit threads, and comparison spreadsheets — all trying to figure out which of the thousands of baby products actually mattered.
The problem is that most of that research isn’t done by people who’ve actually used the products. It’s done by people who’ve read about the products, or been paid to say nice things about them. I couldn’t find a list I actually trusted.
So I kept notes. As I went through the newborn stage — the sleep deprivation, the feeding challenges, the trying-to-leave-the-house logistics — I tracked what actually helped and what was marketing fluff. My daughter is now six months old, and I’ve been testing products in real life, every single day.
“The Parenting Shortlist is the resource I wish I’d had when I was registering and researching. Only the products that actually made the cut.”
I’m also a speech-language pathologist, which means I take safety seriously. Every recommendation on this site passes the basics: meets current safety standards, has real-world durability, and is something I actually use in my own home with my own child.
How I choose what’s on the list
Simple rule: I own it, I’ve used it, and I’d buy it again. If I haven’t personally used something, it’s not here. I also note when something is a "dupe" for a more expensive version — because half the baby gear world charges a premium for aesthetics alone, and I’d rather be honest with you about that.
About affiliate links
This site participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you click a product link and make a purchase, I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how I’m able to keep the site running and the recommendations coming. It does not influence which products I recommend — I would never put something on this list just because it earns a higher commission rate.
Every affiliate link on this site is clearly disclosed. You can also read our full Privacy Policy for more detail.
